STMicroelectronics Introduces EVSPIN32G4-DUAL Demonstration Board for Motor Control

STMicroelectronics has launched the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demonstration board, which features the STSPIN32G4 motor driver integrated into a single high-density package capable of controlling the operation of two motors. This significantly accelerates product development cycles, simplifies PCB circuit board design, and reduces material costs.

STMicroelectronics EVSPIN32G4-DUAL

The introduction of the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL board has greatly shortened the development cycles of advanced industrial equipment and consumer products such as robots, multi-axis factory automation systems, garden equipment, and power tools, thereby reducing time to market for these products. Its built-in Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller (MCU) can simultaneously control two motors and execute complex algorithms such as Field-Oriented Control (FOC) in real-time. Additionally, the MCU peripherals support FOC algorithms with or without sensors, advanced rotor position detection, torque control algorithms, including motor control and general timers, as well as analog devices like operational amplifiers and comparators.

The EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demo board utilizes the advanced three-phase gate drivers in the STSPIN32G4 along with an external STDRIVE101 gate driver to control two three-phase inverters, achieving a maximum output voltage of up to 74V and a maximum output current of 10A. Both drivers feature independent bootstrap circuits and safety protection functions, including gate-source voltage monitoring, cross-conduction prevention, various thermal protection mechanisms, and undervoltage lockout protection (UVLO).

Moreover, the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL can leverage the power management circuitry integrated into the STSPIN32G4, reducing design size, streamlining Bill of Materials, lowering costs, and speeding up product assembly on production lines. The power management circuitry includes programmable buck converters and low-dropout linear regulators supplying power to the gate driver VCC and a low quiescent current regulator specifically for powering the MCU during standby periods.

As a member of the STM32 ecosystem, STSPIN32G4 benefits from the comprehensive development support offered to application developers by this ecosystem, including project development starter tools, middleware packs, and software examples. The X-CUBE-MCSDK (Motor Control Software Development Kit) comprises firmware libraries for motor control algorithms like FOC and the STM32 Motor Control Workbench, equipped with a user-friendly graphical interface where users can easily select and auto-configure the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL from the menu, providing great convenience for application development.
