Innovation in Motor Control: STMicroelectronics Unveils EVSPIN32G4-DUALDemo Board

STMicroelectronics has introduced the cutting-edge EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demo board, showcasing the technology that allows controlling two motors with just one highly integrated motor driver, the STSPIN32G4. This innovation accelerates product development cycles, simplifies PCB circuit design, and reduces material costs.

STMicroelectronics Unveils EVSPIN32G4-DUALDemo Board

The EVSPIN32G4-DUAL board shortens the development cycles of advanced industrial equipment and consumer products such as robots, multi-axis factory automation systems, garden equipment, and power tools, thereby reducing time to market. The STSPIN32G4 motor controller, with its embedded Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontroller (MCU), has the capability to simultaneously control two motors and execute real-time complex algorithms like Field-Oriented Control (FOC). Additionally, the MCU peripherals support FOC algorithms with or without sensors, advanced rotor position detection, torque control algorithms, motor control, general timers, as well as analog devices including operational amplifiers and comparators.

The EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demo board leverages the advanced three-phase gate drivers within the STSPIN32G4 and an external STDRIVE101 gate driver to control two three-phase inverters, achieving a maximum output voltage of up to 74V and a maximum output current of 10A. Each gate driver is equipped with its bootstrap circuit and safety protection features such as gate-to-source voltage monitoring, cross-conduction prevention, multiple thermal protection mechanisms, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO).

Furthermore, the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL utilizes the STSPIN32G4's internal power management circuitry to reduce design footprint, simplify bill of materials, lower costs, and expedite product assembly on production lines. The power management circuit includes a programmable buck converter and low-dropout linear regulator for supplying power to the gate drivers' VCC, as well as a low quiescent current regulator dedicated to powering the MCU during standby periods.

As part of the STM32 ecosystem, the STSPIN32G4 provides extensive and comprehensive development support for application developers, including project development kickoff tools, middleware packages, and software examples. The X-CUBE-MCSDK (Motor Control Software Development Kit) encompasses FOC motor control algorithm firmware libraries and an STM32 motor control workbench, offering a user-friendly graphical interface application development tool that enables users to conveniently select and automatically configure the EVSPIN32G4-DUAL demo board.
